LGBT safety & integration

Can LGBT people live openly and safely in Ireland? Examine documented attacks, religious hostility and the State's response.

Start with the analysis

Check the Irish record

The Yousef Palani case file records convictions, anti-gay targeting and resettlement history. LGBT Ireland's 2019 Oireachtas submission describes reported intimidation and an assault in asylum accommodation. The latter is service testimony, not a conviction.

What the figures show

Garda figures for 2025 record 70 incidents with an anti-sexual-orientation motive, unchanged from 2024. They provide no offender breakdown by immigration status or religion.

A case is not a population crime rate. Nationality, immigration status, religion and motive must each be sourced separately.
