Kevin Yungman: he raped a woman in Dublin and was extradited from Florida

The American actor choked a 19-year-old woman until she passed out and raped her in a Dublin Airbnb. Irish authorities released him pending a charging decision; years later, US marshals arrested him in Florida and a federal court ordered his return.

Kevin Yungman was arrested while preparing to leave Dublin in June 2018. Because the Director of Public Prosecutions had not yet directed a charge, he was released and returned to the United States. The DPP directed a rape charge in 2020; an Irish extradition request followed, and US marshals finally arrested him in Florida in August 2024.

Choking presented as normal

Yungman, an Argentine-born American actor, met the Brazilian woman in Paris when she was 19. During consensual sexual activity there, he told her to alter her breathing and then pressed her neck until she passed out. He later described the practice as normal. She told him it had frightened her.

They met again in a Dublin Airbnb in June 2018. After consensual activity, Yungman put his arms around her neck and squeezed. She could not free herself and lost consciousness. When she told him to stop and said her body could not take it, he raped her.

Released before the charge was ready

The woman reported the attack two days later. Gardaí intercepted Yungman at Dublin Airport and interviewed him, but released him without charge while a file went to the DPP. He was permitted to return to America. The DPP directed that he be charged in February 2020.

The timeline did not mean the case disappeared. Ireland made a formal extradition request, and the United States opened proceedings in 2024. Yungman sought release on bond and challenged aspects of the case, but a federal court refused reconsideration. He was extradited to Ireland in August 2024.

The final Irish outcome

Yungman pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to one count of rape. On 31 July 2025, Mr Justice Tony Hunt imposed six years with the final year suspended, leaving five years active. Reporting said the judge offered to suspend an additional year if Yungman entered a bond and agreed to remain outside Ireland for ten years after release; the located reports do not establish whether that additional condition was completed.

The victim described panic attacks, anxiety, suicidal thoughts and lasting damage to her relationships and faith. The judge treated the asphyxiation as an aggravating feature and said Yungman had acknowledged guilt at a late stage.

The Irish Prison Service reported a 2024 average of €99,072 per available staffed prison space, excluding capital expenditure. Applying that benchmark to the five-year active sentence imposed produces a conditional illustration of €495,360.

This is not an invoice. It does not establish how long Yungman will actually remain in custody and does not account for the possible additional suspension, remission, remand credit, future annual rates or marginal spending. It excludes Garda investigation, international extradition, prosecution, courts, legal aid and victim services.

What the record establishes

Yungman is identified as American and as Argentine-American in US reporting. He was a visitor, not a resident immigrant, and no source reviewed identifies him as an asylum seeker or illegal entrant. The accountability question is narrower and documented: a rape suspect was allowed to leave while a charging decision was pending, requiring a later transatlantic extradition process to bring the completed prosecution before an Irish court.
